In 1986, Washtenaw area churches joined together and started Interfaith Counseling Service with the mission of providing affordable counseling and preventative education that integrated psychology and theology. In 1994, Interfaith Counseling Services affiliated with the international pastoral counseling and psychotherapy group, The Samaritan Institute, headquartered in Denver, Colorado. While we are now known as Samaritan Counseling Services, we still deeply value and count on the support of local churches who share this ministry through funding, referrals, leadership and prayer.
- The Samaritan Institute accreditation is recognized by the American Medical Association and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors.
- In 1992, a Gallup study found that 66% of the population prefers a professional counselor who is religious and 81% want a counselor who can help them integrate their values and beliefs into the counseling process. As trained Christian counselors, we will help you seek solutions that fit the reality of your life within the framework of your beliefs and values.
- Samaritan depends on the generosity of community individuals, corporations and churches throughout Washtenaw, Livingston and Western Wayne Counties. We greatly appreciate each one of our contributors and invite you to visit some of our partners by clicking on the links throughout our website.
